Wedding Photography at The Citadel – Sarah & Sam’s Day
As Manchester based wedding photographers, we always enjoy it when we get to capture weddings outside of the North West and Sarah and Sam’s wedding head us heading to beautiful Shropshire to capture their day at The Citadel.
The Citadel is a stunning turreted house built in the 1820’s that stands at the heart of 200 acres of farmland that is one of the few Grade I listed landscapes in the country. It enjoys views across the Shropshire plain and the Welsh Hills. Sarah and Sam couldn’t have found a more idyllic location for their late summer wedding.
On the day, we caught up Sarah who was getting ready with her bridal party in The Citadel’s impressive round room. Situated in the central north turret, this unusual room is beautifully furnished, with a large period bathroom, and three large windows with views across the Hawkstone Hills. It was the perfect place for the bridal party to get ready and for us to get those all-important morning of the wedding images.
The bridal party consisted of Sarah, her mum, her made of honour and her bridesmaid. And the sweetest poodle dog! The atmosphere was amazing and we got some great photos.
Experienced Citadel Wedding Photographers
Sarah looked stunning in a gorgeous dress with a v neckline and stunning layers of floaty skirt that fanned out in a ballroom shape giving Sarah and real fairytale look and an amazing silhouette in all of our images. It was a gorgeous and unique dress that Sarah bought at TDR Birmingham.
Sarah’s hair and make-up were immaculate courtesy of make-up artist Serena Arthur and a hair stylist from Doll Beauty HQ. Her dress was complemented with a beautiful bouquet from The Florist Shrewsbury, who did all of the floral arrangements for the day. Sarah’s bridesmaids looked elegant in rose gold dresses. Before leaving for the ceremony, we captured a really special father seeing the bride moment.
Now, it’s always lovely to meet and work with other professionals in the wedding industry, and this was the case working with The Newtons who were there to capture the wedding film.
The wedding ceremony was held in St Luke’s Church in Weston-under-Redcastle, and Sarah and her dad travelled there in style in a traditional horse and carriage. St Luke’s is beautiful grade II listed church built in a gothic style but with a Georgian tower. It was a fantastic church for a wedding ceremony as its beautiful interiors made the perfect backdrop in all of our images.
Storytelling wedding photography at The Citadel
At the church, we caught up with Sam and his groom party that consisted of Sam, his best man Matthew and groomsmen Daniel, Fred and Robbie. They all looked very smart in brown tweed three-piece suits.
After a lovely ceremony, Sarah and Sam walked back down the aisle to applause from all of their 80 guests and everybody headed outside for a fun confetti moment before heading to The Citadel for the celebrations. With Sarah and Sam travelling cross country in the horse and carriage.
On arrival everybody enjoyed a drinks reception and we took some great images of the wedding party in The Citadels amazing gardens. Followed by a few romantic images of Sarah and Sam, some featuring their very sweet dog.
Meanwhile, guests were being seated for the wedding breakfast in a luxury marquee so that when Sarah and Sam arrived last, they could receive a rapturous welcome from everybody.
The speeches were thoughtfully given at intervals throughout the delicious three-course meal provided by local caterers The Goose on the Loose. The speeches started with Sam, then best man Matthew and finishing with Sarah’s dad Nigel. And like the food, they all went down a storm. Sam’s speech was extra special because in it he announced that Sarah was pregnant which of course delighted everybody.
After the wedding breakfast, guests were entertained by a hypnotist who enthralled everybody. Guests bravely volunteered to be part of the performance and we got some really great images.
Creative and natural wedding photography at The Citadel
Many of the women headed outside afterwards for the throwing of the bouquet. It was a really fun moment to capture. We kept Sarah and Sam outside a little longer as it was golden hour and we wanted to get a couple of romantic sunset images. We were thrilled with the images we got. Here, take a look.
Evening celebrations started with the cutting of a delicious looking cake that had been made by a friend of the couple and was followed by a very sweet father daughter dance. Sarah and Sam’s guests were definitely up for a party and it wasn’t long before the dancefloor was packed. And with a live music performance, a DJ, tasty evening food and a comfy outdoor seating area with firepits, Sarah and Sam had thoughtfully taken care of every detail to ensure an epic evening celebration.
