Stirk House Wedding Photography

Ask any Lancashire wedding photographer and they’ll tell you that Stirk House is an amazing wedding venue. Built in ancient Sawley Abbey stone, this ivy-clad 400-year-old 17^th century manor house is an award-winning venue that exudes character and charm. Sophie and Alex chose the perfect venue for their summer wedding in the beautiful Lancashire countryside.

Catering for weddings from small and intimate affairs through to large and lavish celebrations and everything in between, Stirk House offer everything in one place. But we’ll get back to all the reasons why we love shooting wedding photography at Stirk House later, let’s start at the beginning of Sophie and Alex’s day.

Wedding Photography at Stirk House

On the day we got there early so we could catch up with Sophie and her bridal party who were getting ready in one Stirk House’s stunning honeymoon suite. Everybody was in great spirits and there was a little medicinal bubbly on hand to start the celebrations early/calm any last-minute nerves, Loved the robes ladies! The bridal party consisted of Sophie, her mum Mireille, maid of honour Ella, and bridesmaids Meg, Beth, Lisa and Lucy. We got some gorgeous images of Sophie and her girls getting ready.

Meanwhile downstairs Alex and his grooms party were in the bar receiving guests. Alex’s grooms party consisted of Alex, his dad Chris, Sophie’s dad Steve, best men Callum and Matt and groomsmen Ash, Jack and Steve. All looked very smart in three-piece petrol blue suits.

This is the great thing about there being two of, we can literally be two places at the same time.

Back upstairs, Sophie was having the finishing touches done to her hair (by stylist Rachel Louise) and make-up (by make-up artist Olivia Stevens) before slipping into her gorgeous figure skimming dress that suited Sophie’s slender frame. It had a gorgeous low back and lace details and a soft fish tail shape that coupled with veil gave Sophie an amazing silhouette in all of our images. We got some lovely images of Sophie’s dad seeing her for the first time in her dress.

The wedding ceremony was held in Stirk House’s enchanting gallery. With stone walls and wooden beams, it’s a magical setting for a wedding ceremony and was the perfect size space for Sophie and Alex’s 60 guests. After the ceremony, there was a fun confetti moment outside before guests enjoyed a drinks reception and we took Sophie and Alex for a quick mini shoot around the beautiful gardens and grounds of Stirk House as well as getting some great images of the wedding party.

Meanwhile, we also shot inside to get some amazing images of the wedding reception all dressed and ready to go. Again, proving that two photographers are better than one! We loved the naked wedding cake it looked delicious and the gin station where you can ‘pimp up your gin’ was a delight! We must also mention the flowers at Sophie and Alex’s wedding as they were spectacular and were the clever creation from the team at Helen’s Flowers.

Sophie and Alex were rapturously welcomed into their wedding reception and the energy levels remained high for the three speeches. There was even a celebrity appearance by the boxer Anthony Joshua.

After the wedding breakfast there was a chance for a few more photographs, some formal and some great candid images of guests just enjoying themselves.

Evening celebrations included a romantic first dance, the cutting of that gorgeous cake with a sword, live entertainment and a fun photobooth (who doesn’t love a photobooth!) Sophie, Alex and their guests were definitely up for a party and the live band made sure they got one. The dancefloor was full.

Before taking our leave we quickly whisked Sophie and Alex outside to get a romantic image of them by a fairy lit tree in the garden. It was a beautiful image that perfectly closed the story of their gorgeous wedding day. Here, take a look.
